This year theIowa Master Gardener Program celebrates 40 years of community engagement through gardening initiatives and educational outreach. Since 1979, over 14,300 Iowans have received master gardening training.

Master Gardeners are volunteers within their community who have a passion for gardening. Volunteer roles may include maintaining local gardens, building pollinator habitats or hosting educational events. The training to become a Master Gardener is offered in the fall and this year 44 locations across the state plan to offer courses for all skill levels.

On this Hort Day edition of Talk of Iowa host Charity Nebbe talks with Iowa State University Extension Master Gardener Specialist Susan DeBlieck about the Master Garden Program.
