Iowa City is home to one of the nation's largest cyclo-cross events, and the race will now become a World Cup event for the sport. Jingle Cross, which founder John Meehan organized for the first time in 2002, will be held at the Johnson County Fairgrounds September 22-25, 2016.

Meehan says that even though cyclo-cross is a relatively new sport in Iowa, it's a great spectator event.

"Basically you ride around a closed loop course, and you do lap after lap after lap. It’s great for the spectators to see it. It’s always in the mud, sometimes in the snow, so, it’s fun to watch," he says.

During this River to River interview, host Ben Kieffer talks with Meehan about Jingle Cross and the race's infamous hill dubbed "Mt. Crumpit."

Friday's on River to River, you'll hear a mix of news that we didn't get to cover elsewhere during the week. During this hour of the show, we also hear from caucus-goers who witnessed coin flips on Monday night to decide county delegates; a conversation with Brad Anderson, who co-chairs 'Iowa Pays the Price;' and an interview with Bill Petroski of the Des Moines Register about a bill mandating that Stanford formally apologize to the University of Iowa fortheir band's Rose Bowl performance. Paul Krishnamurty, a British political gambler, and made $1500 off Monday's caucuses, also joins the program.
