Lillian Darr has stood in picket lines, hugged President Barack Obama and rubbed elbows with stars who were smeared by Hollywood’s Black List in the 1950s.
She writes about her life in her new book Memoirs of a 90 Year Old Hippie. During this Talk of Iowa interview, she shares a few of her stories with host Charity Nebbe. She says after 93 years, three husbands and four kids, she doesn’t know how much advice she has to offer, but she has learned that it’s important to go easy on yourself.
“You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars,” she laughs. “If you ask me for my creed, that is it. But also, you just gotta go with it. Don’t resist.”
