Sandy Ricklefs announced to her community in Center Junction that the city would not disincorporate earlier this month.
In the same breath, she quit her job as mayor.
Ricklefs is just one of many who work in city government in Iowa’s very small towns that are being faced with shrinking populations and gaps in funding for city budgets. During this River to River interview, Ben Stanton talks with Ricklefs about the challenges facing Center Junction and the decision of whether to remain a town. Alan Kemp, Executive Director of the Iowa League of Cities also joins the conversation.
