On this edition of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with local historian Larry Grill of Schleswig and amateur naturalist Glenn Pollock of Omaha, Nebrasksa about their research of an 1820 expedition through Iowa.
We know the details of this expedition becasue two of these explorers, Stephen Watts Kearny and Lt. Andrew Talcott, documeted their journey into journals. This journey from Fort Atkinson in Nebraska to what is now Minneapolis, Minnesota represents some of the earliest European records of the topography and wildlife in Iowa.
Later on, Iowa State University Extension Wildlife Specialist Adam Jahnke joins the show to talk about how Iowa’s thriving turkey population represents a true conservation success story.
