Beautiful fall weather has extended park visits and camping opportunities around the state for many outdoor enthusiasts. However, increasingly dry conditions have prompted the State Fire Marshall to issueburn bans in nearly a quarter of the state. The bans include many of the state parks.
"If a campfire or cooking on a fire is an important part of your outdoor experience, you'll want to call ahead to the park and see what you can and cannot do," says Iowa Department of Natural Resources Park Supervisor Greg Van Fossen.
In some cases, all open burning is prohibited, including barbeque grills.
