It's been a week since Brooke Birmingham blogged about her refusalto let Shape Magazine’s website publish her story.
After losing more than 170 pounds over the course of the last few years, the magazine's website wanted to feature her extreme weight loss success story. When she was asked to submit before and after photos, she did just that. But for the magazine's editors, the after photo became a problem. It showed the excess skin that had been left after her weight was gone.
Shape asked her for a photo where she was wearing her shirt, saying it was “editorial policy” not to feature women in bikinis. Brooke refused to send a new photo and said that if the magazine didn’t want a picture of her real body, she didn’t want her story published.
After a media storm, she’s come to an agreement with Shape that they can use her story if it is used in an article about what extreme weight loss really looks like. She talks with Talk of Iowa host Charity Nebbe about her weight loss journey and her ordeal with Shape.
