Iowa Democrats voted Tuesday on who will challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst in November. At 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press declared real estate executive Theresa Greenfield the winner of the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

The fall race is expected to be both competitive and expensive. Sen. Ernst hopes to get a second term representing Iowa, and Democrats see the seat as a possible pickup in November as they try to take the majority in the Senate.

After she was declared the winner of the nomination, Greenfield addressed supporters on Facebook.
