Sanders Rallies Young Voters For Clinton

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders campaigned at Drake University in Des Moines today on behalf of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“I’m here to say vote for Hillary Clinton on Election Day and the day after that we’re going to roll up our sleeves and make sure that we bring forth the most progressive agenda in the history of the United States of America,” Sanders said.

Sanders did well with young voters in last February’s Iowa caucuses, and narrowly lost to Clinton.  That group has been a crucial voting bloc for Democrats in past presidential elections.

He says Clinton feels the same about many of the issues he raised before the caucuses, like making public college debt free, combating climate change and raising the minimum wage.

He told the largely student crowd at Drake that this election should NOT be about personalities.

“They think that politics is like Dancing with the Stars, it’s like the Super Bowl or the World Series,” he said.  “It’s not. It’s not entertainment.”

Drake student Collin Vandewalle says he supported Sanders in the primaries, but says he’s come around to Clinton.

“It was kind of a hard sell at first but then the more I looked into it the more I was like ok, I guess I can do this,” he said.

Early voting began in Iowa last week.
