Live from Cedar Falls, It's Rand Paul

GOP presidential hopeful Rand Paul meets with UNI students and others Tuesday night

Rand Paul has become the first presidential candidate to live stream an entire day on the campaign trail.

The Republican U.S. Senator from Kentucky used Facebook in real time to document his tour of Iowa college campuses Tuesday.  His last visit of the day was the University of Northern Iowa where his speech to about 100 students was a mixture civics and geography. Paul says he’s concerned that the executive branch has too much power. He also says he’s a different kind of Republican and his stance on both medical and recreational marijuana sets him apart from the rest of the field.

"We have 17 opiates that are legal and marijuana, evil marijuana is somehow illegal," he said.  “I think it’s wrong to put our young people in jail for making mistakes with drugs and I just wouldn’t do it.”

Paul encouraged the audience to live tweet as he spoke. He says he hopes to recruit at least 10 thousand students to caucus for him next February.
