Poet Donika Kelly has put some of the most difficult experiences of her life into her new poetry collection called “The Renunciations.” The collection moves back and forth in time with moments from childhood juxtaposed against the challenges and, yes, some joys of adulthood. She writes about past abuse, family connections, love and breaking up.
Kelly's first poetry collection, "Bestiary," came out in 2016, won several prestigious awards and was longlisted for the National Book Award. In this edition of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe speaks with Kelly about her latest collection.
