An Iowan's COVID-19 Long Haul

Courtesy of Dave Amoroso
Anthony Navarra is a resident of Coralville. He's a so-called COVID long-hauler.

COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have continued to trend down in the past couple of weeks here in Iowa.

Those who’ve contracted COVID-19 and suffered from significant flu-like symptoms or a loss of smell have mostly been able to get back to normal health.

But, as we’ve been hearing, some people infected with COVID-19 continue to suffer health issues for weeks, or even months. These people are the so-called COVID-19 long-haulers.

On this edition of River to River, you'll get to know one Iowan whose health has been severely affected by COVID-19 over a period of months.

This program originally aired on March 4, 2021.

Guests:

  • Anthony Navarra, Coralville resident
  • Malena Billups, certified and licensed prosthetist and orthotist based in Iowa City
Ben Kieffer is the host of IPR's River to River
Rick Brewer was a producer for IPR's Talk of Iowa and River to River
