IPR Welcomes Myrna Johnson

Iowa Public Radio welcomes Myrna Johnson to the position of Executive Director. Johnson will be based in Des Moines and will manage the statewide media organization, including 73 employees, 24 terrestrial radio signals and 9 HD radio signals.

Myrna has over 30 years of experience as a non-profit professional, including eight years in the government affairs office of National Public Radio, and service on the board of directors of KUNC-FM in Greeley, Colorado. While at KUNC, Myrna played a significant role in KUNC’s successful 20-day $2 million campaign to purchase KUNC’s license from the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to joining IPR in January 2014, Myrna built and led the government affairs office of the Outdoor Industry Association and served as executive director of the Boston Schoolyard Initiative, a major initiative by the City of Boston to revitalize and green Boston's schoolyards. Johnson grew up in Ruthven, a rural community in northwest Iowa. She has a B.A. from Wartburg College and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
