Big List Of Iowa Choral Events In November

Bridges 2 Harmony (B2H) from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines will perform on November 18 - details below!

Week after week, choral singers across our state have been rehearsing diligently. Now, 'tis the season when we get to hear the results. Below is a round-up of Iowa choral concerts in November.

We'll be publishing a December "Big List," too, and we will update the November list as we learn about new concerts.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2

3 p.m. in Ames - Lyrica Women's Choir. One of two women's choirs at Iowa State, it's led by Kathleen Rodde. Tye Recital Hall, Iowa State University.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3

1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Ames - Iowa Statesmen (men's choir), led by James Rodde. Tye Recital Hall, Iowa State University.

2 p.m. in Grinnell - Grinnell Singers. Bucksbaum, Sebring-Lewis Hall, Grinnell.

3 p.m. in Waverly - Bel Canto Cedar Valley presents "Love and Light" featuring guest artist Sean Botkin, piano, and the Aplington-Parkersburg High School Choir, Jeff Bieber, conductor. St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School 301 1st St. SW, Waverly.

4 p.m. in Decorah - Decorah Chorale and Luther College Collegiate Chorale - Iowa premiere of "The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci" by Jocelyn Hagen. Conducted by Jennaya Robinson and Jason Rausch. Center for Faith and Life, Luther College, Decorah.

8:30 p.m. in Ankeny - Holy Fall Choral MasterworksFeaturing Mozart. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ankeny. 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8

6 p.m. in Cedar Falls - UNI Cantorei, led by John Len Wiles. Great Reading Room of Seerley Hall, University of Northern Iowa.

7:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon - U.S. premiere of  “The Flood Requiem" by Dutch composer Douwe Eisenga, by the Cornell Choir (Lisa Hearne, director) and Cornell Symphony (Martin Hearne, conductor). King Chapel, Cornell College. (Eisenga will come to Iowa for the concert, and will be interviewed by Barney Sherman on IPR Classical on Wednesday afternoon, September 6.)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9

3 p.m. in Ames - Cantamus Women’s Choir led by Kathleen Rodde. Iowa State University,  Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall, 300 Union Drive, Ames.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10

2 p.m. in Ames - "Benefit Concert for Good Neighbors Emergency Assistance." Thirteen area choirs, including the Ames Chamber Artists and Ames Children's Choirs. Collegiate Presbyterian Church (CPC), 159 Sheldon Ave, Ames, Iowa 50014 

2 p.m. in Waterloo - Metropolitan Chorale, Amy Kotsonis, conductor. The program includes Gabriel Faure's ethereal "Requiem" and a new commission from UNI composer Nancy Cobb Hill, "I Dream A World" -   First Presbyterian Church 505 Franklin Street, Waterloo

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15

7 p.m. in Cedar Falls - Winter concert of the UNI Children’s Choir led by Michelle Swanson. Great Hall, Gallagher-Bluedorn, University of Northern Iowa.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18

7 p.m. in Des Moines - Des Moines Diversity Chorus, with Bridges 2 Harmony(also called "B2H," from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines). At the newly renovated auditorium at Franklin Junior High School, 4801 Franklin Avenue, Des Moines, IA, 50310.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20

7 p.m. in Indianola - Simpson College Chamber Singers. Conducted by Loida Pineda. Amy Robertson Music Center, Lekberg Hall, Simpson campus, Indianola.

NOVEMBER 21-23

Various times in Ames: All State (high school) Honor Choir, Iowa State University Campus. Ames.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24

2 p.m. in Grinnell - Mozart's "Requiem" and John Rommereim's "Convivencia"  - Grinnell Singers, Grinnell Oratorio Society, and instrumentalists, all led by John Rommereim. Sebring-Lewis Hall, Grinnell.

3 p.m. in Des Moines - The four choirs of Drake University - the Drake Choir, Chamber Choir, Chorale, and Drake University Community Chorus - in their first winter concert to be directed by Drake's new director of choral activities, the noted composer Eric Barnum, as well as by Linda Vanderpool. Sheslow Auditorium, Drake campus.

3 p.m. in Iowa City - “Music of the Spheres” - the Chamber Singers of Iowa City conducted by David Puderbaugh, at Voxman Music Building, corner of Clinton and Burlington Streets, Iowa City.

7:30 p.m. in Decorah - "Composing for Choir, Orchestra - and Video Projections." Lecture by award-winning composer Jocelyn Hagen. Olin Hall 102, Luther College campus.
