"The Way We Worked," a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition sponsored by Grinnell College, will open at 9 a.m. at Drake Community Library. The opening celebration will include self-guided tours of historic downtown Grinnell that will feature storytellers who will share antique photos and talk about the business leaders and workers who played key roles in the development of downtown. Golf carts will be available. The exhibition, which continues through Oct. 6, explores how work has become a central element in American culture. It traces the many changes that have affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years, including the growth of manufacturing and increasing use of technology.
