The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Laura has weakened after making landfall early Thursday as a Category 4 storm with 150 mile per hour winds.
Laura came ashore at Cameron, Louisiana, just east of the Texas border. High winds are spreading well inland into parts of eastern Texas and western Louisiana.
