Hot Chip: Catchy and Danceable

Hot Chip.
Hot Chip.

Featuring the contrasting vocal talents of Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, the London band Hot Chip makes catchy, danceable indie-rock that runs the gamut from shimmering pop melodies to harder, techno-inspired electro-rock. Now, after the U.S. release of the group's second album, Hot Chip is capturing attention here, as well.

After meeting at secondary school during an impromptu wrestling match on the playground, Taylor and Goddard began making music together at 17 and subsequently recruited additional members to form Hot Chip. Blending a diverse array of musical styles, their debut EP (Mexico) was praised upon its release for its simple melodies and surprisingly lovely arrangements. Following several more EPs, the band released its full-length debut, 2004's Coming on Strong.

Hot Chip's second full-length album, The Warning, finds the group sounding more mature and energized than ever. Its quirky electro-pop has evolved into tighter, more polished and altogether more effective rock, especially on the rocking single "Over and Over."
