Clara Schumann

Early in their marriage, Clara Schumann was actually a more famous musician than her husband, Robert. But she largely gave up her early dreams of becoming a composer, in order to play the role of wife and mother (of eight). Among the few pieces she left behind are a set of Preludes and Fugues. We'll hear the Prelude and Fugue in B-Flat, No. 2, from Op. 16, performed by Angela Chang. (CBC Records, MVCD 1087) 5:00
