The nation's largest auto insurer, State Farm, says it will cut insurance rates for drivers of what it deems to be the safest vehicles -- large cars, pickup trucks and some SUVs. The new rates, which will save some drivers about fifty-dollars, reflect auto safety, according to State Farm. But some consumer activists criticized the rate structure, saying it penalized drivers of small cars and rewarded drivers of light trucks, whose vehicles are more likely than cars to kill the other driver in a crash.
