Yankee Doodle Pops Veteran's Day Special

Iowa Public Radio recaptures the patriotic spirit of the Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops concert to air on Veteran’s Day.

The Des Moines Symphony along with guest vocalist Steve Lippia will perform hits made famous by Frank Sinatra.

The show kicks off with the “Oh Say, Can You Sing?” contest winner Stephanie Schneider performing The Star Spangled Banner. The program also includes patriotic marches, a special tribute to our service men and women featuring Governor Kim Reynolds, and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, punctuated with howitzer canons and firework explosions.

Join Iowa Public Radio Classical on Saturday afternoon at 4 on November 11th for this patriotic Veteran’s Day broadcast presenting highlights from Des Moines Symphony’s 2017 Yankee Doodle Pops concert recorded last summer on the West Terrace of the Iowa State Capitol.
