Proposed Changes to Sexual Misconduct Rules Could Affect College Students Nationwide

A recent New York Times investigation revealed possible changes to the way sexual misconduct is handled on college campuses across the country.

 

Possible changes proposed by Trump Administration Secretary of Education Betsy Devos include narrowing the definition of sexual assault, reducing liability for institutions of higher education, and changing the burden of proof for students bringing forth complaints of sexual misconduct.  

 

On this episode of River to River -- an exploration into how these proposed changes and rollbacks could impact the safety and well-being of college students in Iowa and across the U.S..

 

Host Ben Kieffer is joined by former Assistant Attorney General for Iowa Roxanne Conlin, who has almost 50 years of experience prosecuting cases of sexual harassment and assault, as well as student Jill Oberhart, who works at a Student Violence Prevention program assistant at the University of Iowa’s Women’s Resource and Action Center.
