Politics Day: a Budget, an Investigation, and Debate on Immigration

With a budget proposal, debate over a path forward on immigration reform in the Senate, a senior White House staffer being accused of domestic violence, and continued allegations about President Trump's so-called non-relationship with Stormy Daniels—there's much to discuss this week in political news.

During this hour of River to River, host Ben Kieffer talks with political scientists Jim McCormick of Iowa State University and Hans Hassell of Cornell College. Hassell says Trump campaigned on the idea that he would balance the federal budget, but that commentary was just lip service.

"It's very clear that he has a different view on debt," says Hassell about Trump's commentary about both eliminating the debt and being '"king of debt."

“There are also quotes where Trump says he's king of debt, and he's said that he can renegotiate the debt. I think it's more lip service than his way of governance."
