Margaret Glaspy live on Studio One Tracks September 11th

Margaret Glaspy/ATO Records

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Margaret Glaspy is making a stop in Cedar Falls at Octopus College Hill, and we’ll be broadcasting the show live on Studio One Tracks.

Margaret Glaspy is a 27-year-old indie folk-rock singer-songwriter based out of Brooklyn, New York. Her debut critically-acclaimed album, Emotions and Math, was just released in early June after previously releasing a few EPs, and since she has been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and in magazines like The New Yorker. She is best known for her unique, eclectic vocal style and impressive songwriting ability. Her music features primarily an electric guitar and percussion, is said to reflect the musical styles of Elliot Smith and Joni Mitchell.

The show is a part of the HANDPICKED Series, which was launched by Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center last December. Blake Argotsinger, a founder of the series and associate marketing manager at GBPAC, said that the series began by going around to festivals and communities around the Cedar Valley last summer, and asking people to fill out forms of about 100 bands who they would most like to see come to the Cedar Valley. The goal is to make Cedar Falls more of a destination for indie and alternative artists.

The event will begin at 7 pm and Des Moines’ Extravision will open.
