Fort Dodge native and professional runner Lisa Uhlis hoping to make her mark in the marathon in the next Olympic games.
Making the Olympics are a life goal, and when they're over, you have to take a step back. That's where I was. I still truly loved the sport, but it took a little bit of time. I decided to try again for 2016, but I had to get refocused first.
That’s after running her first marathon less than a year ago. She raced in the Chicago Marathon in October.
“I hope to make the Marathon team, mainly because I get to punch my ticket in February and don’t have to wait until June. Also, as I go up in distance, I’m more competitive. I think I’m more competitive in the 10 K than in the 5K, but I think I could be pretty competitive in the marathon world-wide.”
During this Talk of Iowa interview, Uhl talks with host Charity Nebbe about her love/hate relationship with professional running, her return to Iowa State University as a veterinary student and her newest challenge – coaching high school boys.
