Iowa's own Michael Gilbertson visits Studio One

ChamberFest Dubuque

With summer of 2018 comes ChamberFest Dubuque’s 10th annual festival! As part of the Northeast Iowa School of Music (NISOM), ChamberFest Dubuque features a workshop and a concert. The group performing at the concert is an ensemble of world-class performers that exist together only at this year’s ChamberFest.

ChamberFest is an annual event that was founded by NISOM alumnus and Iowa native Michael Gilbertson. Gilbertson studied at Juilliard and is a current professor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is also a world-renowned composer and was a 2018 Pulitzer Prize Finalist for his recent work entitled Quartet. Gilbertson started ChamberFest Dubuque because he wanted to give back to his community. Each year, he hand-picks an ensemble of rising stars of the international music scene to perform a benefit concert for NISOM with him. This year, in addition to Michael, his ensemble consists of David Fung on piano, Hanah Stuart playing violin, Bridget Pasker on cello, Zach Mani performing on clarinet, and Evan Saddler playing percussion.

Don’t miss Michael Gilbertson’s appearance in Studio One on Tuesday, June 5th at 1:00 p.m. IPR’s Barney Sherman hosts Michael and his five fellow musicians for an afternoon of music and interviews. Tune in for their performance and hear Michael discuss his inspiration for founding the festival to benefit the Dubuque community. Furthermore, Michael may have a special treat, just for Studio One. Catch Michael and his ensemble in Studio One on Tuesday, June 5th, to find out if he presents a world-premiere!

To participate in ChamberFest Dubuque, Join Michael Gilbertson on Wednesday, June 6, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in Dubuque for a workshop unlike any other. Local musicians have the opportunity to meet the members of the ensemble, ask questions and learn about their instruments. The workshop is free and open to all ages. The following evening, Thursday, June 7 at 7:00 PM in Clarke University’s Jansen Hall, Michael and his ensemble will perform a once-in-a-lifetime show with a champagne reception to follow. Ticket purchases for the concert not only give you a great performance in an intimate setting, but also benefit the music community. Proceeds from the concert “support NISOM’s mission to provide quality, affordable music education and enrichment in the Tri-State Area.” Don’t miss the unique and wonderful opportunities at ChamberFest Dubuque 2018!
