Iowa Public Radio's next Iowa Arts Showcase broadcast will air Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Join us as Iowa Public Radio's Jacqueline Halbloom interviews Jeff Fleming, Executive Director at the Des Moines Art Center. Fleming will discuss the upcoming exhibition: Gravity and Grace

 by global artist El Anatsui. Gravity and Grace will be at the Des Moines Art Center October 25 through February 9, 2014. Anatsui's amazing work focuses on today's materialistic and consumer driven world as well as our ever growning blurred geographic identities.

Also making guest appearances in this Iowa Arts Showcase edition are Iowa Composers Forum's University of Northern Iowa senior Jillian Whitaker, who studies composition and theory, and Jerry Owen, Coe College Professor Emeritus of Music. They will discuss the Iowa Composers Forum's Festival scheduled for October 5. They will reveal the new works to be performed at the Opus Concert Café in Cedar Rapids. 

Tanna Frederick, independent film star and cofounder of the Iowa Independent Film Festival will share some of her Hollywood experiences. She will talk about this year's festival which is scheduled for Fiday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Mason City.

Bernard McDonald, music director and assistant professor of music, and Bruce Brown, stage director and associate professor of vocal music will delight listeners with information about their upcoming Simpson College opera productions. Simpson College will present a double bill of Puccini's Suor Angelica and Britten's Curlew River at Simpson College's Lekberg Hall Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13, 2013 in Indianola.
