Iowa Public Radio’s next Iowa Arts Showcase broadcast will air Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Join us as Iowa Public Radio’s Jacqueline Halbloom interviews Kim Findlay, director of Davenport’s Putnam museum. Findlay will discuss the museum’s current and upcoming exhibits with special attention to the current Princess Diana exhibition. Jacqueline and Findlay will explore details about Princess Diana’s wedding dress and diamond tiara displayed in the exhibition. Other exhibits include the Smithsonian Community Reef exhibit and the Take-Apart Studio which allows visitors to dismantle everyday items and see their inner workings.
President of the University of Dubuque, Dr. Jeffrey Bullock, and the University of Dubuque Heritage Center Executive Director, Thomas Robbins, will share their excitement about the university’s new facility, the Heritage Center. The new complex provides a multitude of new opportunities for students and community members to enjoy the arts. Dubuque native, Michael Gilbertson will share details about his upcoming opera, Breaking, which premieres on November 13 at the Kennedy Center as a part of the Washington National Opera’s American Opera Initiative. You will learn about Michael’s collaboration with the opera’s librettist, Caroline McGraw, and how they worked together on this exciting new project.
November’s Iowa Arts Showcase concludes with an interview featuring Dr. Steve Carignan, University of Northern Iowa’s Associate Dean of Special Programs and Executive Director of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Jason Weinberger, Conductor and CEO of the WCF Symphony, and Dr. Stephen Gaies, University of Northern Iowa’s Professor of Language and Literature and Director of the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education. Their focus will be on the upcoming Kristallnacht: Night of Broken Glass performance scheduled for November 10, 2013. Joining the WCF Symphony for this performance are the Metropolitan Chorale, Cedar Valley Chamber Music, University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Theatre, the Wartburg Choir, Hunter Capoccioni, Jason Weinberger, and youth singers from the Cedar Valley.
