Okkervil River is a river in St. Petersburg. The Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya wrote a short story with the river as its setting, and that was the inspiration for the name of the band that formed in Austin, Texas twenty years ago. Singer-songwriter Will Sheff leads Okkervil River, and remains as the only original member of the band. Sheff's voice as a vocalist, and as a writer, defines the group's sound. For its ninth album, In The Rainbow Room, Okkervil River deliver indie rock that rocks, lopes and glides. As Sheff stated upon the album's release, "I wanted to make a record where a sense of kindness felt encoded into the music."
