The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light

Miroslav Petrasko

An inky black sky full of stars is one of the most breathtaking views on Earth, but for most Americans the stars have dimmed because of artificial light.

"Our tendency is to think our problems are everything, but if you grow up someplace where you can see the galaxy out there...I think it gives us a healthy perspective on who were are and our place in the universe."

Today on Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Paul Bogard, author of The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light. Also joining the conversation is Jack Troeger, of the Dark Sky Initiative, and Byron Hueftle-Worley, Grinnell City Council Member, who in 2006 worked to establish a city-wide lighting ordinance.
