Encore Broadcast: Brucemorchestra! 1812 and More

Iowa Public Radio

Don’t forget to include Iowa Public Radio Classical in your Thanksgiving celebration this year, as we present an encore of Orchestra Iowa’s 2015 Brucemorchestra concert. Our Performance Iowa broadcast will air on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26 at 2 PM.

Recorded live on Saturday, September 12, 2015 on the grounds of Brucemore mansion in Cedar Rapids, this year’s Brucemorchestra theme was Brucemorchestra! 1812 and More. This annual family tradition featured one of the most famous works of all time - Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The program also included Dvorak's iconic Symphony No. 9, From the New World, as well as Semtana's The Moldau from Ma Vlast, and the Men of Harlech march, arranged by music director Timothy Hankewich.

In addition to Orchestra Iowa, an over 100-member men’s chorus was included. The ensemble was made up of male singers from the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale, Mt. Mercy University, Coe College, Kirkwood Community College, and The Harmony Hawks. The Orchestra Iowa Discovery Chorus and The Westminster Presbyterian Church Hand Bell Choir also joined the symphony and chorus on Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
