Combined Efforts Theatre Debuts New Production "Shellshocked"

The medical and mental health communities are doing their best to learn about and treat post traumatic stress disorder more effectively. Historically, the term "shell shocked" immediately comes to mind, and a new play by Combined Efforts Theatre in Iowa City raises some questions about the kinds of trauma that soldiers who fought in World War I experienced when the term was first introduced.

Janet Schlapkohl is the founder of Combined Efforts Theatre and she is the writer and director of the play. She became interested in the topic because her grandfather was a veteran of WWI. During this hour of Talk of Iowa, she talks with host Charity Nebbe about the play, which premiers December 15 on the Iowa City Community Theatre stage.

Lindsey Moon served as IPR's Senior Digital Producer - Music and the Executive Producer of IPR Studio One's All Access program. Moon started as a talk show producer with Iowa Public Radio in May of 2014. She came to IPR by way of Illinois Public Media, an NPR/PBS dual licensee in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and Wisconsin Public Radio, where she worked as a producer and a general assignment reporter.
