The concert opens with Brahms’s colorful Academic Festival Overture, written as a thank you to the University of Breslau and employing student drinking songs for musical material. The symphony performs Tchaikovsky’s deeply romantic Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. The program concludes with world-renowned Yo-Yo Ma joining the orchestra to perform Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in b minor.
