Carla Offenburger Shares Wisdom After Receiving Third Cancer Diagnosis

Many Iowans remember Chuck Offenburger from the years he spent writing for the Des Moines Register as the "Iowa Boy" columnist. He’s still writing - you can find his work on offenburger.com - and his wife, Carla Offenburger is writing too. These days she’s been writing about her latest experience, being diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma for the third time.

In this Talk of Iowa segment, Charity Nebbe speaks with Carla and Chuck Offenburger, both cancer survivors, about how to support a spouse battling cancer, how their views of life have changed over the years, and why they decided to write about their experience publicly.

“It’s a story that needs to be told, so that people aren’t afraid of cancer - so they understand the inside turmoil, dilemma, and scheduling," Carla Offenburger says. "It’s also good because it keeps you honest.”
