The Earth’s fossil record shows that the planet has been through several periods of mass extinction. The Fifth Extinction was the one that ended the dinosaurs, and many people believe that we are now in the midst of the Sixth Extinction, driven this time not by an asteroid, but by pressures created by humans.
In this edition of Talk of Iowa, Charity Nebbe interviews Pulitzer Prize Winning writer and journalist Elizabeth Kolbert, who published The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History in 2014. She has spent the last 20 years reporting on and writing about climate change, ocean acidification, and mass extinction.
Kolbert will speak at the University of Northern Iowa on Thursday, September 20th as part of the Aldo Leopold Distinguished Lecture Series.
